A Mac running macOS 13 or later, with a built-in or external webcam. Focal works on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs. No account is required to start focusing.

On first launch, Focal walks you through building your Focal: name it, pick a voice, choose what it should keep you honest about, and set a daily focus goal. You can change any of it later in Settings.

Completely, except for screen tracking. All focus tracking and coaching runs on your Mac, so you can pull the network cable and nothing changes. You only need a connection to download the app or manage a Pro subscription.

Nowhere. Frames are analyzed on-device in real time and immediately discarded — never written to disk, never uploaded. There is no cloud to send them to. Read the full detail on our Privacy page.

Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and make sure Focal is toggled on, then restart the app. If another app is using the camera, quit it first — macOS only allows one at a time on some setups.

You can — screen-aware coaching and your focus record still work. But gaze and phone-pickup detection need the camera, so you'll get the most out of Focal with it on.

Yes. In Settings you can choose your coach's sensitivity and voice, and pick exactly what it watches for. Set it gentler if you take a lot of thinking breaks, or stricter for deep sprints.

Your streak counts days you hit your focus goal. Earn a rest day for every few days you hit it; miss a day and a banked rest day is spent automatically to keep your streak whole. No flame to lose, no guilt.

Your data lives in a local database on your Mac and is yours to export or delete anytime from Settings. Free keeps 7 days of history; Pro keeps all of it.

From inside the app under Settings → Billing, or from the Pricing page. Checkout is handled securely by Stripe and takes under a minute.

Cancel anytime from Settings → Billing — you keep Pro until the period ends. If something went wrong, email us within 14 days and we'll make it right.
